Photo-gallery of New Caladonia - Huon Reef
Begin November 2003 we leave the Banks and Torres Islands in the north of
Vanuatu and head for Australia.
On our way is Huon Eiland, the most
norhterly reef of New Caladonia,
where in that period of the year in night time the 'green' sea turtles come
to the shore to lay their eggs. On the day Huon
Island is the realm of the 'Bubby's'
and other birds. We meet a conservation team
from
New Caladonia that does
research on the 'green' turtles
and can tell us a lot about their behaviour. In night
time we also accompany the team members on several of their 'patrouilles'.Double-click on any picture in the gallery for an enlargement.
